I used Verizon for 16 years. I switched to Mint. Pay the year up front and my bill is less than 2 months of my old Verizon bill

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with paying your bill early. However, the $20 non-compliance charge was likely applied because your account is enrolled in AutoPay. AutoPay provides a $10 monthly discount per line, but one of the requirements for keeping that discount is allowing the payment to be processed automatically through the enrolled payment method. When a manual payment is made before the AutoPay date, it prevents the automatic payment from processing for that billing cycle. Since AutoPay did not complete the payment as expected, Verizon considers it non-compliant with the AutoPay terms and applies a $10 charge per line. In short, Verizon is essentially reversing the AutoPay discount for that month because the payment was made manually instead of through the scheduled AutoPay process.

After one year, my Verizon bill went from $250 a month to $700. When my contract ended, it went up to $1100. We switched to T-Mobile. For the same service (four phones) we pay $150. Verizon also lied to us about the discounts they offered.

I ask this question EVERY time I’m buying something with a monthly payment or on credit, “is there a penalty for paying early?” They all look at me like I’m an idiot, but I read and know that some companies do this.

I was a Verizon customer for over 18 years. Constantly had to call for random extra charges. Not to mention it being over priced... Left them 2 years ago for Spectrum. I pay only $35 month per line unlimited. Zero issues with service. Would highly recommend.

I used to work with Verizon as a customer rep. And I swear to God, we don't know what's that for as well. We will put the call on hold and talk to our self "God, here we go again, can Verizon just stop increasing the service or stop charging customers too much". But anyway, look for other provider instead. Verizon is really expensive.

My bill went from $90 to $400 in the course of a year and everytime I called they said they could switch me to a new plan. I dropped the service and went prepaid Visible. Same exact service but $25/ month.

That’s because u enrolled in autopay with a discount qualified payment method which is why verizon is giving you the discount and then u used a non qualified payment method to pay the bill in advance, the second thing is you have 2 phone lines and that’s why it’s $20 fee

I was a previous employee of Verizon and I believe, you have an Autopay and you did pay your bill early without using the same card you have on file with Autopay. That's when it trigger the "non compliance charge". When you enrolled to Autopay, it was properly shown under terms and conditions. I just don't know tho, if you read it.... but yeah, that's what caused that charge

As a past former Verizon rep, the non-compliance fee usually happens because Auto Pay gives you a $10 discount per line, and if you pay early or outside of Auto Pay, you may no longer qualify for that discount. It sounds crazy, but that’s how it works. Agents are often under constant pressure and worried about negative interactions or bad customer surveys, which is probably why they waived the fee.

I did and after 12 years they took my loyalty discount away, so now I’m finding a new cell service. Turns out I too don’t have to be loyal.
