AI exacerbates this - why would I do the work if I can just prompt AI and instantly get the answer/work magically completed. That is bad!!

Like when people pay to have their Lego sets built for them. The fun is building it yourself and discovering what you're capable of doing.

I quote ted danson in the show the good place: “There's something so human about taking something great, and ruining it a little so you can have more of it”

This is a very silly example but there’s a guy who sells my favorite sandwich at our local farmers market. It’s not year round, only may-October and he’s offered to give me the recipe. I refuse every time and spend Nov-April missing it dearly but the joy I feel when I finally get the first one of the year?? Having it readily available strips away what makes it special. I hate it here.

Also the packaged “tip of the cone” never taste as good as the real “bottom of the cone”, and I do not want the luckycharm marshmallows if I have to pay double for it in a flashy bag

I think the people who don’t socialize because they hate small talk also fall into this category. To get to the juicy bits, to the lore of the people around you, to know them fully, you have to start off with the small talk. If you refuse to engage with them like that, then you’ll never reach that step of openness

exactly what social media algorithms do too. You watch one frog video and then suddenly your fyp is nothing but frogs.

I've noticed a similar phenomenon I call "everything-flavored everything" Ex. Reese's-flavored Oreos, churro-flavored Kit Kats, Cinnamon Toast Crunch-flavored fruity pebbles, etc

This is happening en masse with AI - why practice a skill to mastery? Why learn how to find information for yourself? Why apply yourself to learn and study? AI can do it for you and you don't have to do a thing.

I remember seeing a TikTok from a girl that said her dad used to listen to Dance Yrself Clean by LCD Soundsystem, and when she was a kid she would ask her dad to skip to 'the good part' (the song has like a 3 minute buildup before the song pops off). The dad said 'without the intro there is no good part' and that is lowkey so profound I think about it all the time 🥹
