I found it easier to solve by doing this: 58x58-42x42 which equaled 1600.

Its a² - b² which is the same as (a+b)(a-b) so its (16)(100)=1600

I passed trigonometry top of my class, aced the final in high school. I'm 45 and have never in my adult life outside of school needed to know the difference between two squared numbers...I can't think of a practical example where squaring a number would come in handy.
