I do not understand why Kindle has Kindle Unlimited for like $10 a month but Audible is crazy expensive!

Former librarian here!!! We count audiobooks as reading. I was taught that pretty much day one in training (thought I already felt that way.) And frankly who is more of a professional on what is a book and what isn’t than a librarian?

Right like I was a full time student in a nursing program working a full time job when I switched to audiobooks anytime I HAVE the time I go back to traditional reading but there’s not enough time in the day as it is

Also, the science says audiobooks and reading are the same to the brain.

Audiobooks carry me through mg commute, dog walking, cooking, cleaning! My family knows that if they need my attention while I am doing anything they need to stand in front of me and wait for me to hit pause! Physical reading can only be done before bed. I have read/listened to 44 books this year and it’s because of audiobooks!

Caitlin Stafford :
But also, scientists have shown that listening to an audiobook activates the same part of your brain that reading a book on paper does. Listening to podcasts and music don’t activate the same way, so you’re literally processing it exactly like you would if reading off the page.

I work 3 jobs and commute at least 30 minutes to each. I tear UP audiobooks. it takes me 3-5 business weeks to finish a physical book.

For me personally, they aren’t reading because I’ll zone out and not get anything out of it. But for everyone else, read that audiobook.

I could see the argument being they aren’t physical reading, but they are still consuming literature.

Or we just say. That is an interesting hypothesis you seem to be holding onto. Science tells us otherwise. https://news.berkeley.edu/2019/08/19/readingbrainmap/

Let me start off by saying I did not vote for tangerine cankles mcdumpster fire😂😂😂 if you have learned the skill of reading, by all means enjoy an audiobook while you commute, work, clean, craft whatever you do but I don’t think children should be allowed to do audiobooks unless there’s a 504/IEP plan in place. My son is a 12th grade English teacher and he can see the decline in students being able to read at a high school level. These students are having trouble with sentence structure, punctuation with grammer as a whole because they’re not seeing it therefore they don’t know how to use it. All I’m saying is to me they are 2 different things but they can both be enjoyed and should be enjoyed but not supplemented.
