we need less pills and more nature in order to heal. I can't speak much on this because I don't have ADHD but I do have other mental illnesses and meds messed me up in highschool, and I wasn't even on them long. What HAS helped me is therapy, somatic healing, nature, journaling, singing, painting, etc. As an adult, if meds help then good, do what works. As a kid, absolutely not...there are other ways to help

what's the long term side effect of untreated adhd? I dealt with inattentiveness, anxiety, depression all my youth, couldn't maintain relationships, had to drop out of high school at one point. finally got life together late twenties and diagnosed with ADHD this year. Took Adderall for the first time and I almost cried

Thank you for this! My sons been diagnosed at 7 in the first grade. The school pushed it, now they won’t stop mentioning medication. Which I will never do. Any tips as someone who’s dealt with this their whole life, on helping him stay focused in class?

Unfortunately the long term effects are unfolding in real time. I’m sorry to anyone who has to go through this.

I was on Ritalin finally ending of middle school starting high school. I struggled so badly with my ADD, I was not able to literally comprehend/retain any information. My grades were HORRIBLE, I tried so hard, my drive was there but my mind wouldn’t let me. After I was given Ritalin, I had As & Bs.. I stopped taking my medication because I was never “forced to” & yea I was a high school drop out & went back and got my high school diploma at age 22 & I am on a stimulant now & my ADD never, got better. I didn’t “grow out of it” .. 🤷🏻♀️

I agree. My son was on adhd meds for a few years and he was not my son. It completely changed him. We took him off the meds, and he was our son again. I think it's hard when you see your child struggle, but the meds we're not the answer for us. He is now 20 and does just fine without meds. I hate that we even put him on it in the first place, but because school didn't want to deal with him, we thought that was our answer. IT WAS NOT, and I have many regrets about it.

I think it’s a very hard balancing act and risk/management needs to ave assessed at each turn, and I’m not sure we are doing a great job at that. Meds should be closely monitored and used to support other methods of care when needed

I have a 7yo with ADHD. He was struggling so bad with school but I refused to go the stimulant route so young. he was prescribed a non stimulant and is doing so much better. im so glad his doctor was willing to go that route with us.
