We are a blended family. When we started dating, I was freshly divorced with 2 boys (ages 1 & 4). He had been divorced a couple of years and had 5 & 10 year old sons. To say it was tough at times, would be an understatement but here we are 31 years later and so proud we stuck together, survived the difficult times and came out stronger because of them. I honestly can’t imagine our life any other way now. Our boys are grown with families of their own and we are blessed with 11 total grandchildren. Stay strong. Blending is hard but it can be done. The most important advice I could give, is to always remember that each struggle is only temporary. Continue to lean on each other and not pick sides no matter how hard that may be. Try to always listen to each other. You will be more successful growing as a family if your kids see you as being happy together and as one unity. ❤️

I’m so glad I found this page. Same situation here — my husband is widowed and I’m divorced. We’ve been married eight years now. In the beginning, our kids blended surprisingly well, but as they’ve gotten older, married, and started families of their own, things have gotten so much harder. Sometimes it feels less like “our family” and more like “his kids and her kids,” and it honestly breaks my heart. There always seems to be competition, hurt feelings, or distance creeping in, and no matter how hard I try, I feel like I never quite know the right way to handle it all. Blended families are beautiful, but wow… they can also be really complicated!!

Blended family here! 9 years later we all have a great relationship but my husband and I are pulled in different ways through the kids sports so it still feels separate unfortunately

Agree so much! It’s been 10 years and it’s getting there - shared memories and time!!! and I have to remember that as daughter where we were all in different states physically and life wise- it almost took 20 years- and the memories but also being there for the life struggles - my kids loving their uncle (my step bro) and my divorce and my brother’s divorce (we dropped the step) had us feel more connected

We have been blending for the last 2 yrs. Yesterday we just put up pictures around the house that have a combination of the kids together making memories. But sometimes I still feel like it is still my kids, his kids.

Thank you for the encouraging message. It’s been a few years now and I definitely thought it would be easier. Sometimes it feels a bit hopeless. My children are all older and in college. I don’t have pictures around the house, but I think that’s such a great idea.
