@theninthsemester: If you’re not pulling up to your job interview with at least 2-3 pages of notes, you’re not getting an offer #earlycareer #interviewing #interviewprep #theninthsemester #careeradvice

At my last interview, I asked them more questions than they asked me. I was taking notes as they talked, I asked for clarification where necessary. One of the hiring managers said that they felt like the candidate . I got the offer the next day. I turned it down because I got a better offer the same day. I did an email to them , thanking them and expressing my regret for not accepting their offer. I got a reply saying I am always welcome to the company if I ever wanted to.

Wait… I thought this would be like “cheating”, cause I’ve always had my notes but never bring them in front of the interviewers. I feel like if I’m not making eye contact the whole time they’re gonna think I’m rude and unprofessional

I had the job pulled up, my resume and a list of questions to ask them about themselves, the team and the job. I feel like I killed it.

I don’t just ask questions off the top of my head. I let them see me pull out a typed page with 3 questions for the interview out of a portfolio. It shows organization, preparedness and genuine interest.

I really want to bring notes but wouldn’t they think it’s a red flag reading off paper?

Baby I am the notes! I research the company the position, their financial status. I bring a copy of my resume, I have 3 degrees, they need to ask why they don’t have me! 😌😂

Weirdly - I NEVER knew that it was acceptable to bring a notebook and pen to an interview u til I was asked to sit in on the interviews for my new manger. The candidate came in with a notebook, pen, and started taking notes on US. I was so surprised. She got hired and I asked her why she brought a notebook with her that day I’d never seen it, never thought of it as an option - she laughed and said “if I’m spending more than half my adult life clocked in, I need to make sure I’m making the correct decision.” - I’ve brought a notebook ever since with my resume, questions for the interviewer, and a brief about me so I don’t blank when I’m nervous. It’s life changing ✨

I saved several videos and this was one. Just reporting that I got the job and Thanks for the advice! I answered my interview questions with confidence, came with notes, and solid questions using the tips from tik tok! The panel was impressed!

I never knew this either and I absolutely love that. I know you said not to read from them, which makes sense but how do you utilize them like if they ask you a question do you like quickly look down at your nose just to like refresh your memory? Because I’m absolutely gonna do this. I just wanna do it right.

The bestttt skill I’ve learned for interviews is for EVERY SINGLE ONE: prep for 10-30 mins the days leading up to it so you can know exactly what they’re looking for and know they’re language! Know a little bit about the company too , not just the job you’re applying for ! Being likable / holding decent conversation >>> actually knowing WTH you’re talking about 😂! When they ask you questions , say as much as possible, idc if it feels long winded … this approach allows you to steer the interview and fill in the meat and potatoes, which usually leads to them asking you less questions because you’ve already answered them!! And lastly, I think one of the most important things you can do in an interview is CLEARLY and CONFIDENTLY state, your transferable skills, and how you can use those skills to do the job!
