Alifungwa kwa ujasiri wake wa kuikosoa serikali ya Jomo Kenyatta, ambapo maneno yake yalihukumiwa kuwa ya uchochezi. Alitunga shairi hili la Kimvita, “Kuno Kunena” alipokuwa akitumikia kifungo hicho cha miaka mitatu 1969-1971. Leo, akiwa na umri wa miaka 80, twamuenzi miongoni mwa Mashujaa wa Kenya. Allah amhifadhi yeye na majasiri wengine wote wanaothubutu kunena ukweli mbele ya wenye mamlaka. KUNO KUNENA! 🗣️ #MashujaaDay Mzee Abdilatif Abdalla is a Hero 💪🏾🇰🇪 He was the first person to be imprisoned for political reasons in independent Kenya. He was jailed for his courage in criticising Jomo Kenyatta’s government, with his words deemed seditious. He composed this poem in Kimvita, “Kuno Kunena” while serving his 3-year prison sentence 1969-1971. Today, at the age of 80, we honour him among Kenya’s heroes. May Allah protect him and all other courageous people who dare to speak truth to power. KUNO KUNENA! (SPEAKING OUT!) 🗣️ The Poem’s English Translation: Speaking Out Why has speaking out provoked my imprisonment? What therein compelled my confinement?
