@pocket.psychologist: Sometimes the behaviour is not the real problem. Sometimes the real problem is the belief underneath it. Perfectionism can look like “high standards” but underneath it might be: “I’m not enough.” People pleasing can look “kind” but underneath it might be: “Conflict isn’t safe.” Overthinking can look like “being prepared” but underneath it might be: “Something bad is coming.” A lot of the patterns we judge ourselves for are actually protective strategies built around deeper beliefs. And the goal is not to shame the pattern. The goal is to understand what the nervous system is trying to protect. Because when you meet the need underneath the pattern, the pattern often starts to soften. That’s exactly what I teach inside my Pocket Psychologist Mini Course: understanding your patterns, nervous system, core beliefs, emotions, coping styles, boundaries, habits, and practical tools that actually help in real life. Tiny concepts. Pocket-sized tools. Nervous system friendly. ✨ Link in bio to learn more.

I love these so much! If possible, could pause at the end for a second or two so we can screenshot the whole thing? Thanks so much for such good advice condensed into a manageable package!

Jennifer Lynch, PhD :
good enough action has helped me hugely with my perfectionism when it comes to creativity! such a great reminder to name our needs. every pattern is a misguided attempt to meet a need. but if we can name the need and meet it in a small healthy way, the pattern can start to dissolve.

What about with clingy feelings they ask direct and then also refuse to believe bc the partners actions aren’t the same way the clingy person would show love. But the partner truly does show love.

Most people have no idea a book like The Forbidden Codex of Influence by Julian Voss even exists. The way it breaks down manipulation, desire and influence is honestly insane.
