They seemed like the perfect family. Sadly, behind the scenes, the marriage was reportedly under financial and emotional strain as Chris had begun a secret affair with a coworker, Nichol Kessinger. On August 13, 2018 Shanann returned home late from a business trip. The night that she returned Chris k*lled Shanann inside their home. He then drove Shanann’s b*dy and their children to an oil site owned by his employer. He then k*lled his own daughters, Bella and Celeste there. Shanann was buried in a shallow grave, and the girls’ bodies were placed in oil tanks. The investigation quickly focused on Chris because of the Surveillance footage from the neighbor. The footage directly disproved Chris’ story, and from there his statements to police changed multiple times. During questioning, Chris first claimed Shanann had harmed the children and said he k*lled her in anger. He later confessed to k*lling all three victims himself. In November of 2018 Chris Watts pleaded guilty to multiple counts of murder and unlawful termination of pregnancy. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole plus additional years.
