@uncletonyspov: The Westside Pavilion Mall was located at 10850 W Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90064. It was a landmark, postmodern shopping mall designed by Jon Jerde that featured brightly colored, pedestrian-focused avenues. Known for hosting "Clueless" and Tom Petty’s "Free Fallin'" video, the mall thrived for decades before closing in 2019 to be converted into the UCLA Research Park. Opened in 1985 and built at Pico and Westwood boulevards, it was developed by Westfield Group for $90 million. From 1934-1950, the Westside Pavillion site was home to the Pico Drive-In and mini-mall. It featured a design meant to mimic a European open-air street, designed to act as a modern "town square". A two-tiered bridge was added later to connect the main mall to a "Westside 2" extension across Westwood Boulevard. The mall was famously used as the location for the "Free Fallin'" music video and featured in the 1995 movie Clueless. Following a decline in retail traffic and the closure of major anchors (Nordstrom and Macy's), the mall was repurposed by Hudson Pacific Properties and Google into office space, and finally acquired by UCLA in 2024 to become a major research facility.
