It was composed over 700 years ago by the great scholar and poet Imam Sharafuddin al-Busiri رحمه الله. After suffering from severe paralysis, Imam al-Busiri turned to Allah with sincerity and composed this qasidah out of deep love and devotion for RasulAllah ﷺ. It is famously narrated that he later saw the Prophet ﷺ in a dream, who placed his blessed cloak, the “Burdah,” over him. By the permission of Allah, he awoke cured from his illness. This is how it became known as Qasidah al-Burdah, “The Poem of the Blessed Cloak.” For centuries, Muslims around the world have recited these beautiful verses in homes, gatherings, and masajid as an expression of love and connection to the Prophet ﷺ.
