Worth to mention that the ones that naturally had a longer neck actually had a genetic mutation that caused it. That genetic mutation just happened to be a positive one in that specific case. Such as how polar bears actually had brown fur from the beginning, but a bear with genetic mutation instead had white fur. The white fur proved to be an advantage in the snowy white terrain, so that bear had a bigger chance to produce offsprings. There are many examples to this.

there's smth called "adaptation" and the best example of that are cetaceans. Their ancestors were 4 legged terrestrial animals and over millions and millions of years they evolved to an aquatic lifestyle. The genes of most whale traits (baleens blubber fins no legs) etc were non existent to the first cetaceans like pakicetus, so how the modern cetacrans inherited these unexistent genes of their ancestors ?? the answer is simple, they adapted o aquatic lifestyle and their bodies evolved to better adapt to that new environment
