If you do the mission where you rescued the Monks Brother from Maelstrom, they'll appear near megabuilding 8 and can give some really righteous dialogue about souls and the relic.

at the end of this quest, after your final and most successful meditation, johnny seems like he's in pain or stifled in some way when you come to. in my head cannon, that happened because true meditation is something that can slow the takeover of the relic, and johnny could feel it in a way.

This topic is very interesting. All the endings other than devil and tower are quite bittersweet, because you’re hit with soul killer instantly when you connect to mikoshi, so V’s already basically “died” and now you’re just a copy. But at the same time you can play the game and see how Johnny despite being an engram and “soulless” actually changes significantly from a misogynistic narcissist to someone who is actually empathetic and willing to sacrifice himself for V. Hard to say if it’s really a soul killer.
