@hospicenursepenny: Ascites is common for a patient with any liver disease. It can cause pain and difficulty breathing. #Hospice #HospiceNurse #Education.
My mum had ascites but it was from stage 4 metastatic ovarian cancer

One of the reasons my hubs didn’t choose hospice is that they can’t do the albumin infusions post paracentesis/drain at home and that palliatively helped him feel better. It bears noting, Brian walked himself into the hospital on his last day so possibly he’s not the typical pancreatic cancer patient lol

this is what my brother had, and we had no idea. I urged him to go to the doctor, but he wouldn't.

My husband had pancreatic cancer. Ascites is very painful. He had it drained a few times. It is a horrible cancer.

I love how you frame this as allowing them to do the things they want to do rather than spending hours/days going to appointments.

Nurse penny you have been a blessing during this time for my family my sister is currently on home on hospice after her 7 month battle with adrenal carcinoma and your advice and knowledge has given me more insight on each stage of these final moments. Currently she’s in the death rattle stage watching patiently and waiting. She was surrounded by love and prayers this morning she left and CAME BACK in Jesus name. I think it’s that last stage where everything looks bad then they say nvm but her “nvm” is the agonal breathing vs her looking at the sky mouth gaping open and shallow breaths like this morning
