@fixxoxxna: The customary law practised by the Minangkabau (the largest matrilineal society in the world) became the foundation of Adat Perpatih in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. Introduced with a belief that this 'adat' would solve the problems created by the old laws, it is still believed to solve problems that modern governance struggle with. This got me thinking: 1. Will equality still be difficult to achieve if we have ample policies in place which encourage it? 2. Is it easier to just not question the existing systems and call it "natural" simply to avoid change? Even if it means change is for the better? 3. Does change start from policies or does it start from society's conscious effort to choose equality over dominance? Well, change is the only constant, and I think change can start from you and me.
