@drdrewprovan: Donating blood is a very altruistic thing to do. But it does take a little while to replace the red cells and plasma. #hematology #anaemia #bloodtransfusion #blooddonation #fyp
I've donated blood 27 times, and been refused 6 times due to low hemoglobin. I got told to get my iron checked after my last attempted donation and found out my ferritin was 17. I wish I'd known to supplement iron sooner!

It’s such a shame that you can’t donate blood if you have received a blood transfusion. I received a life saving transfusion and would love to give back but sadly am not able to

If it takes 24 to 30 weeks to replace the iron lost, why did they let me donate every three months? That’s only 12 weeks.

Grateful to all who donate. Needed it while I had a medical emergency, and it sure helped me heal faster. I’m not a candidate for donating myself, due to said medical condition, so I’m glad others do❣️

I have to take regular blood samples due to medication (methatrexate) will this affect my ability to donate?

Is this why heavy periods makes me iron deficient?

Hello Doctor Drew most frequent blood donors claim about headaches and increased hemoglobin levels after donating blood can you explain this scientifically?

After donating every 3 months for some years, this time I was did not meet the haemoglobin threshold and I was referred to my Dr. Blood tests showed low ferritin and I then received 2 infusions 4 weeks apart. Going to offer my blood next week and I should be good again.

if everyone knew their blood type (or it was routinely recorded on their files) what impact do you think it would have on care, e.g. would blood reserves be better balanced or handled differently in emergency/trauma situations
