@yourspace_foundation: “Just get them into school” sounds simple. But for children with EBSA, school refusal is often anxiety, overwhelm, and a nervous system in survival mode, not bad behaviour. Children need support and emotional safety, not pressure, to feel able to cope again. Have you ever been given advice that made your child’s anxiety worse?
My nephew really struggles to go into school. He’s in year 4 now and he’s been struggling since nursery. Today he even climbed over the gate to leave! No one really knows what to do. I’ve asked him if he struggles with noise or being round a lot of people but he said he just finds school hard. When he gets home from school he’s fine apparently it’s just when he goes into school. Do you have any suggestions on what to do? I have no idea if he has EBSA or anything. Nothings been confirmed or looked into

I’ve given my 6yr old two days off . Mother of all meltdowns wed evening . She struggles mon/tue/wed but. Yesterday we did her favourite things …crafts , teachers , mcds in bed watching a film . She fell asleep at 3,30pm & slept for 14hrs. Lots of tears this morning to the point she was being sick 😢 so day off again . She has reached her resilient limit . She’s neurodivergent . Some days are better than others but I will not force her in when she has reached this stage . School & I , need to put something in place to prevent her feeling like this again 🥺

My 13yr old has had issues with school setting since she was 3yrs old and in nursery, I'd be able to get her into the school grounds but not into the nursery. Now she's in yr8 in secondary school and i'm being hounded about her attendance and also looking at a second fine. She's already told me and the school she feels targeted by the teachers & students but not much support has been put into place, she will see someone once a week from the school team and that's it. Even with medical evidence for her insomnia and EBSA their still making at as unauthorised 😤

the more you push, the harder it will become. it may take ages but pushing will draw them further apart.

You can’t put anything in place if they’re not in the building .. hybrid schools don’t exist … after 5 years- parents will question the early decisions they’ve made when their now 18 y old is still sat in the sofa
