@ditchthegrind0: Okay so I was 16 when my nan told me something that stuck with me forever. We were sitting at her dining table and I was stressing about something small, like most teenagers do, and she laughed and said, "my darling, I spent half my life waiting for the right time and it never came!" Then she got serious. She told me she used to think she was being sensible. Careful. Practical. Waiting for the kids to be older. Waiting for money to feel safer. Waiting for life to slow down. But it never really did. She said there's a cost to waiting for calm before you live. She called it the Quiet Life Tax. It's what you pay when you keep putting things off until they feel easier. When you don't say yes because you might fail. When you don't try because you don't want to look silly. When you tell yourself you'll do it "one day!" She told me the tax doesn't show up all at once. It shows up years later, when you realise how many chances you quietly passed on. I think about that conversation all the time. It's why I've always said yes more than I’ve said no. Why I'll try things before I feel ready. Why failing has never scared me as much as not trying at all. The regret she carried wasn't about the things that didn't work. It was about the things she never let herself attempt. This shaped me and I decided, really early on, that I wasn't going to live that way. Not perfectly. Not fearlessly. But on purpose. If this hit, you're probably not reckless or unrealistic. 👉Follow me @ditchthegrind0 for my top tips on avoiding The Quiet Life Tax

It's a great other way of saying don't wait for the years to pass, start today because time will pass anyway. In 5 years you will either be 5 years older or have 5 years experience.

Took me until 47 to work this out 😳 now I ski, lift weights, run, learning bee keeping, changed jobs, went kayaking for the first time yesterday, now I’m going moutain biking. I learnt that it’s better to try and enjoy than thinking about being great or perfect.
