@samsfamilytrip: This pool at Biltmore Estate has basically never been used 😳 You walk in and instantly think: “WAIT… a castle-style pool in North Carolina?!” But here’s the twist 👇 It looks like pure luxury… but it wasn’t actually practical at all 😅 Hidden facts you don’t expect: • Built in the 1890s — long before chlorine existed • The water was ice cold ❄️ (no heating system at all) • No filters, no lifeguards, no safety standards • The family tried it a few times… then stopped using it • It was later drained and has stayed empty ever since • Today it’s preserved to protect the historic structure Why this space feels so different: • Built inside the largest private home in the US 🏰 • Designed by George Vanderbilt • Feels like stepping into Europe… but you’re in North Carolina • Super cinematic — almost like a movie set 🎬 Good to know before you go: • You can’t swim here (just for clarity 😅) • The pool is part of the house tour • Kids usually find this room the most fascinating • Pair the house + gardens + winery for a full day experience This is one of those spots people walk right past… and then stop like: “WAIT… what did we just see?” 👀 Save this for your East Coast bucket list ✨ Biltmore Castle | NC | Vanderbilt #biltmore#vanderbilt #asheville#scary#travelamerica
Just look up the Podesta paintings. You will eventually see the "pool."

Everybody always tries to make something out of nothing. It’s a fucking pool nothing more than that.

Actually, it is not true at all that the pool was only used a couple of times and then drained because it was too cold. In fact the pool had a state of the art heating system for the 1890s. It was heated using steam from the house’s massive boilers. It even featured underwater DC lighting, which was incredibly rare for the time. Far from being used only a couple of times by the family, the pool was a popular spot for guests. The real reason it was a hassle to maintain was the lack of a filtration system. Because chlorine and modern pumps weren’t used, the heated water would become murky and stagnant after just a few days. To keep it clean the staff had to drain all 70,000 gallons, scrub the tile and refill it from the mountain reservoir every few days. Eventually, this became too labor-intensive and expensive to maintain as a modern museum exhibit which is why it sits empty for tours today.

so you guys tour the estate of the largest home in the country from one of the wealthiest families. Go down to the basement and look at a pool. And just can not believe that a pool is a pool.

I was there. They said the pool had to be drained after people used it bc no chlorine so it didn’t get used very often. I did not get creepy vibes or anything from it. No clue what people are saying with that.
