Ive said for years I dont know how WH Smiths was keeping on going. The stores are empty and overpriced and it was obvious to anyonr that splitting out the stores into TG Jones was a way of keeping the profitable ones whilst offloading the unprofitable

Are they selling the whole SMWH business to Modella? If not, surely selling the TG Jones side of the business to Modella surely is good news meaning they can focus on the profitable WH Smith international branded stores? Am I missing something?

Modella wanted to close 150 stores when they bought it, but weren’t allowed to for 12 months. They bought it on 30th June 2025, so come 30th June 2026, they will dispose of those 150. This leaves them with the 300 or so that they originally wanted to keep trading.
