Alot of misinformation here. First, you can’t recast a government loan. Only a conventional loan. FHA loans have MI for life as it’s a government insured loan. You also can’t remove MI on a conventional loan unless you have reduced the LTV to 80% and must be current on payments. Read to the Homeowner’s Protection Act. Also a recast has to be approved by your servicer and also has a fee associated with it.

Not entirely true. You don’t get a lower rate with less down… and recasting isn’t automatically initiated with the lump sum. You do need to coordinate with the bank. Every bank is different. Check with them before you make decisions.
