@becoliver_: Dogs at badminton - absolutely nothing wrong with it, so if you’re taking your pooch over the weekend I hope you have the best time 🤍 each dog owner knows their dog well enough to know how to manage them at these events, let’s stop being so judgy and forcing our opinions on everyone else.

I agree with you, and it's the irresponsible dogs owners that ruin the day for other people. Stay safe and enjoy the horse shows. 💜💜💜

Yes it’s fine to take them but your dog should be able to calmly sit next to you rather than constantly pulling and barking

I have a beagle that loves people and is just so happy and chill even in massive crowds, he is a service dog though so has been into museums in Glasgow on a Saturday in the Summer, but before he was trained as one he’d always come to Blair and RHS and he doesn’t get phased! I actually took him to a weekend festival a couple times and he slept next to the stage with music blasting and people dancing and was snoring his head off on a blanket and then an hour later was back at the campsite cuddling strangers round the fire pit! My little Chihuahua though? It would be her absolute worst nightmare to be anywhere remotely busy. But if you know your dog and are thinking about them and their personality then it’s not an issue, some dogs love big crowds and atmospheres and some hate it

The dogs aren’t the issue, the owners are. My dog absolutely loved it on xc day.

Took my cocker yesterday. My dachshunds find it too overwhelming in the shopping areas. He’s the one on the official shopping reel on the other app taking in Jenny Rudall after she asked to say hi 😂

I couldn’t agree more!! I went last year and wish I had taken my dog. We spent the day sitting in the shade on a quiet fence and he would have much rather been there than at home alone.

Badminton is SO DOG FRIENDLY it's only the self righteous nutters on the internet that think it's okay to tell people what to do with their animals that take issue with it. I went on Wednesday and I was amazed at how well behaved all the dogs were there and they all were having the time of their lives! I'd definitely take Reggie if it wasn't so far away. Id much rather see all the lovely dogs than think of them all locked in a house for 10 hours a day!

I've been chased by a dog mid xc course and it nearly brought my horse down at a hedge. Dogs should be banned.

I was at Cross Country yesterday and I only saw well behaved, happy dogs. I wouldn't take mine as they are mini dachshunds and I would be worried about them being squished, but you do what is best for your dogs 🥰

Ive never been to Badminton but I took my eldest dog to Burghley when he was young. He's lost his privilages because he barked so loud at everything coming through the trout hatchery he got picked up on all the TV mics, but if he had some self control he'd go every year as long as it wasn't too hot. He bloody loved it there! And a nice opportunity for some training in the crowds too. I was thinking about taking my youngest dog this year but I suspect he might have the same need to be heard as his brother and fuck if Im dealing with that again 🙈🤣

Yesteraday wasn't suitable for dogs, way too busy and way too hot. Also if you're taking dogs to these type of events keep them on a short lead and don't let them on the course when a horse is coming.

I have two rescue / street Romanian dogs. One of them hates other dogs, the other hates being away from home. Would I bring them? No absolutely not I don’t even bring them to the yard 😂 do I think that farm/yard/ well behaved dogs should stay at home? Absolutely not, just make sure they’re not getting off the lead and running after the horses init 😂

I always think it depends on weather and how your dog is in manic busy situations and if they can be trusted with recall if they slip their lead. I’ve been on years where it’s been over 25 degrees, dogs on their last legs struggle in the heat all day - that’s not fair! Then I’ve seen dogs so frightened by the noise, the crowds and the atmosphere or slipped leads chasing horses it’s sad to see 🥺

The only time I’d say no dog is if you can’t make sure your dog is secure since for any dog a horse going past at speed there gonna want to chase it so as long as the dogs secure I don’t see an issue

They should absolutely be allowed but people have to be responsible otherwise it will get banned. If you’re dog barks at horses or is easily overwhelmed or doesn’t have recall then don’t bring them.

It depends on dog and owner. Some dogs are perfect. I took my dog once and kept away from the crowds and did shopping in tandem so he wasn’t overwhelmed. He normally gets left in kennels as he doesn’t handle crowds well.

I’m totally with you on this, I took my dog 2 years ago to badminton, and he’s the most placid, chill dog ever, I part share a horse so he’s trained around them as well. The problem is is that there’s always one idiot that just doesn’t control their dog and it chases a horse round the course, ruining it for all dog owners and giving us a bad rep. This was how chill my dog was at badminton, and we were right at the front surrounded by people 😅

It’s the minority of people who let go of their dogs on the cross country course ruining it for the majority of people who keep control

I like seeing all the dogs we take ours every year to a few horse trials and country fairs. However I think if you know your dog isn’t friendly 100% of the time don’t bring it. There’s little children everywhere. We had an escaped dog run over and maul our dog in the car park at Blenheim, it was horrible. We didn’t end up going in because we literally got out the car and had to go straight home because of the incident. The family with the dog that attacked ours didn’t even apologise they just rushed off to the entrance with the dog to drag it around all day when it clearly didn’t like seeing other dogs at all.
