for the people who dont watch all the video 🤪:Some Stonehenge stones have metal in them because of 20th-century conservation efforts rather than ancient construction. Steel rods were inserted during the late 1950s (notably 1958) to stabilize and support fractured or falling sarsen stones, preventing them from breaking and protecting the monument.Purpose: The rods act as internal support to prevent crumbling or breakage of the massive stones.1958 Restoration: During a major restoration, a diamond-cutting firm bored holes into one of the upright stones (Stone 58) to insert these reinforcing metal rods.The "Core" Samples: While drilling, engineers took core samples. One such core was kept by worker Robert Phillips for 60 years before being returned in 2019, which helped researchers discover that the stones came from West Woods in Wiltshire.Maintenance: Before these modern reinforcements, some stones had become precarious, requiring urgent intervention to stop further damage.
