@dadhugsforyoursou: Overthinker? Three tips from an eminent psychotherapist that changed my life. **1. EMDR bilateral music** Stereo headphones on. Sit still or do something mundane. Play it. Search EMDR bilateral music on YouTube or Spotify. It feels like a warm bath for an addled brain. I was completely sceptical and now I do it every single day. **2. The ceiling fix** Lie on your back. Find a spot on the ceiling. Fix your eyes on it and do not let them move. To find thoughts your eyes have to move. Hold them completely still and feel your mind shut down almost immediately. **3. Box breathing with beans** If breathwork makes you flinch, try this. Get some coffee beans or anything that size. Put them on a table in four sets of four. Stare at the first set while you breathe in for four counts. Hold for four on the second. Out for four on the third. Hold for four on the fourth. The overthinking brain cannot maintain its spiral while your body is running a pattern that requires counting. It has to choose between the two. It cannot do both. When you are really struggling, combine one and two simultaneously. Bilateral music in your ears and eyes fixed on the ceiling at the same time. Not a coping mechanism. An off switch.
