You told the truth. I began teaching my daughter when she was 3 years old back home. When we moved to the UK, I didn't stop; now she will turn 10 this December, and she’s doing great in reading, even earning a platinum award for reading 85 books. I'm really proud of her.

This was how I was raised. My dad made reading very interesting for me. Most times, he would read a book first without telling me, then hand it over and ask me to read it too. After reading, I would come back and gist him about the story, and that made reading so fun because I always wanted to understand the book well enough to talk about it with him.
The first book he bought for me was Tulu, the Lazy Girl when I was still in primary school, and after that, he kept getting me more books. When I got to JSS 1, I was very small for my age, so I was often intimidated by people. Then in JSS 2, he gave me How to Win Friends and Influence People to read. He would always ask questions and discuss the lessons with me afterward.
That was the strategy my dad used to make us love reading, and by God’s grace, it’s the same strategy I’m now using with my kids.

I've been reading to my son since he was a newborn. He is 3 now and has such a creative imagination. Although he can't read yet, he likes to pick the books up and create his own storyline or try and piece together things based on memory.

You say the truth. I started early with my children. I love reading too. Also build your Children’s cognitive skills and IT skills early too.

I totally agree with u!! Added to their reading/ story telling skills I also make my kids write: short stories! Helps with their creativity/ imagination a lot! I give them a word and ask them to write a short story with that word as the main driver. 👍

As a single dad with a daughter of 4, I will definitely inculcate this into her. Her mum was an avid reader as well during her lifetime.

Amazing!! Then means I’m doing something right. Another thing my self and husband did to help her get into reading habit was not always being the one to read the book at young age, sometimes she dos the reading to us and at 2 she can read what you could understand, she enjoy reading 30mins on her own, like you can hear her reading even if she doesn’t understand but only knows the words and now she can read, understand and can relate to us what she reads at 4yrs.
