You might find purple sea urchins washed up from rocky reefs, market squid egg capsules that look like clear jelly tubes packed with developing baby squid, sponges that were ripped loose from underwater surfaces, empty crab shells left behind from molting or dead crabs, and thick sea foam pushed in by wind and waves. That foam is usually made when seawater full of broken-down algae, proteins, and organic material gets whipped up by rough surf. It might look gross, but it’s actually a sign that the ocean has been mixing, churning, and dragging hidden pieces of marine life onto the sand. The craziest part?
