As an American this feeds my ego but if I’m being fair I’d say it’s just that we have a lot of massive corporations that make up a huge percent of gdp and the amount that makes its way down to the average American is probably about the same as a Brit

the issue is with how that gdp per capita is distributed among the population. I would guess that the median brit is more wealthy than their American median counterpart.

It’s like asking “how expensive your car is terms of horse power”. GDP and wealth are somewhat related concepts, but only in the long run with all other factors being equal.
