Point Nemo is the most isolated place on Earth located deep in the South Pacific Ocean and officially known as the oceanic pole of inaccessibility because it is farther from land than any other place in the world The nearest islands are thousands of kilometers away which makes the area feel completely cut off from human civilization The location was discovered in 1992 by Croatian Canadian engineer Hrvoje Lukatela using satellite calculations and advanced mapping systems The name Nemo comes from the Latin word meaning no one and also references Captain Nemo from Jules Verne’s famous novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas The place has become famous because of its extreme loneliness and mystery There are almost no ships that pass nearby and very few people have ever visited it In fact astronauts aboard the International Space Station are sometimes closer to Point Nemo than any humans on Earth below The ocean around Point Nemo is considered one of the emptiest marine regions on the planet because nutrient circulation is weak meaning there is less sea life than in most other oceans Scientists also use the area as a spacecraft cemetery because old satellites and space stations can safely crash there without endangering human populations More than two hundred spacecraft have been deliberately sunk near Point Nemo including parts of the Russian space station Mir and future plans suggest the International Space Station may also end its journey there someday The area has inspired many myths science fiction stories and internet legends because it feels almost alien with endless water in every direction and no visible signs of civilization Some people even compare it to another world because of the silence darkness and emptiness surrounding it Point Nemo reminds humanity how huge and unexplored the Earth still is even in the modern age of satellites technology and global communication because there remains at least one place on the planet where a person could stand surrounded by nothing except endless ocean sky and silence. #pointnemo #space #ocean #fyyyyyyy #viral - @lachipn
