As an old memory care worker, I just want to let y'all know sometimes they might not remember you, but they do fight us every day at 2 p.m. because they have to get their baby from school. They help us with snacks and tell us your favorite food. They rock and play with the plastic dolls and they give them your name. They tuck the dolls in at night just how they would tuck you in. They light up at certain songs because it reminds them of you. Sometimes they might not recognize you, they might not know your name but they do remember you. 🥰

My dad was a horrible dad growing up. He had Alzheimer’s and it’s changed him to a gentle man, much like a child. This disease healed my relationship and gave me a dad I always wanted. Kind, easy going. So, as weird as it sounds, I’m so thankful for it. It helped me forgive him before it’s too late.

As well as I remember When I was in high school I was dating this guy. And we went to his grandparents before going out to eat. I sat in the living room with his grandpa. Never met this man. And it was just him and I. He had dementia or Alzheimer’s I’m not 💯 sure. But he started telling me all about his life. And my bf at the time starts walking into the livingroom and he just stops in complete shock. Because he hadn’t remembered anything in quite awhile. And he was just baffled that his grandpa was sitting there telling me all about his life.

I miss my grandpa. When it came to me the memories never went away. When I’d call our conversations never changed. My whole life when I’d call we immediately talked about the weather. That never changed. And his nurses and my aunt would tell me. Thank you. Because the moments he had contact with me. It would jog his memory for a little while. And the only time he would actually eat without putting up a fuse or refusing. My grandma was the same she always remembered when I was around. There was only 1 fleeting moment where she thought I was her mom. 🖤🖤 I miss them both so much. 🖤🖤

Mein Opi sagte mal, als ich ihn besuchte:"Ich weiß gerade nicht, wer du bist, aber ich weiß, dass ich dich sehr lieb hab!" Ich hab auf das Foto, das auf seinem Nachttisch stand, gezeigt und gesagt, dass ich das bin. Dann hat er sich erinnert, mit einer tief berührenden Freude. Demenz ist so herzzerreissend 😭

my grandma forgot everyone and didn’t know who i was. she kept calling me “mama” but a few days before she passed, she looked at me and her whole face lit up with the biggest smile ever and she said “well hi!! ive missed you and i haven’t seen you in a while!” ☹️

My mom had dementia and towards the end she couldn’t remember my name. I walked into her one morning and her face lit up and she said, “Oh, I love you!” It’s one of my best memories. She still knew she loved me, even if she didn’t know why.
