in America you can work 3 jobs and make lots of money, In Ireland you're penalised if you work too much, you go in to the high tax bracket of 50+% once you earn over €40, 000.

I’m truly convinced time is just different in Ireland… the day is definitely shorter in America, there’s less time. After thirty years living in America I can tell you that when I go home to Ireland I still experience the day as twice as long.

It’s an America thing. I’m from Dublin, been working in Kansas the past 8 years and work is life. Even taking PTO is stresssful, you’re always expected to be available. My colleagues all talk about how long their days are as if it’s a competition…it was different working at home, at 4pm I packed up and went home not thinking about work til the next morning. Total 180 here!

Yes, it’s so true. I’ve had this conversation before. I’m from New York and have family in Ireland, and some family from Ireland working here. I definitely think it’s more of a New York thing. Everything here is so fast-paced and work can completely consume you if you let it. Ireland feels much more relaxed and balanced, honestly I think life should be a little more like that

To answer your question: I have traveled the world and it just seems to be a NY thing. Pressure to succeed you forget what really matters. We always want more instead of enjoying what we have. Just my 2c.

I think for some reason there was more time years ago. Can’t explain it but in the 80’s & 90’s coworkers gathered after work for bowling leagues, softball games & Happy Hours weekly. Maybe we were all just younger then with more energy 😅

Definitely American, moved to Ashbourne from Indiana, US and the corporate culture in IN is the same as NY. Live to work in the US. Ireland corporate life has been phenomenal, wouldn't trade it for anything.
