@meghannmcuniff: A jury in Tampa, Florida, today convicted four men of murdering rival gang member and prominent Jacksonville rapper Charles “Julio Foolio” Jones. Sean Gathright, Isaiah Chance and cousins Rashad Murphy and Davion Murphy could be sentenced to death when jurors return on Monday. The jury deliberated about eight hours today before convicting on all counts. It took 12 minutes for the clerk to read the verdict. This video has been edited to brevity to include all defendants. Gathright and the Murphys were the gunmen on June 23, 2024, outside the Home2 Suites hotel next to the University of South Florida while Chance stood by in the same hotel parking lot with his girlfriend, Alicia Andrews, after tracking Jones through the city. Jones was prominent in drill rap, which celebrates violence and mocks death, and was in Tampa celebrating his 26th birthday. He’d been shot several times before, including a shooting in Texas linked to one of the guns used to kill him. The huge amount of evidence against the men ranged cellular location data and surveillance video, including from a Tesla that was charging in the lot when the men ran by and executed Jones. Gathright’s DNA also was on one of the alleged murder weapons found in the home the now 20-year-old shared with his mother, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps. It wasn’t a smoking gun, but he seemed to realize he was done during the testimony. As someone said in the YouTube comments, “That DNA evidence blowing them young man’s mind out of sight.” Gaithright and the Murphys were convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and three counts of attempted second-degree murder, which was a lesser included to attempted first-degree murder. Gathright also was convicted of evidence tampering. Chance was convicted of the murder and conspiracy charges. He was not charged with attempted murder. #law #crime #court
