How can you pay her if you don’t have the payoff statement? She needs to provide this information. And there’s a real good chance if you pay her directly, she won’t pay the lien holder and they will still have a claim for the money. And while the lien holder can sue her for that money, they could possibly repossess from you. Probably best to have your lawyer take over from here.

What’s crazy is if you went to a bank and got the loan, the bank would not give her full payment either. It would send payoff to her bank that carries the loan and she’d get the difference. It’s just how any purchase goes when liens are involved

did you pay on time monthly? Tbh it may not matter if she has title. A bill of sale me be enough for you to register it and pursue a title. That will create a default on her loan but that’s between her and her lender.
