I watched the show first and for me it was obvious that Ilya was gone for that boy. He was the one initiating things most of the time. It was also painfully obvious how much this fact made him panicking too.

You miss out on all their thoughts and inner monologue. Because of this, I’m very happy I read the book (and the entire series) many times before the show was made. This said I LOVE the series and Jacob Tierney will be my hero from now on🥰

10000% the show presented a much more romantic?? version of their relationship. book shane is in denial abt his connection to ilya for so long, and he actively struggles a lot with wanting ilya+getting pleasure from what he does with ilya.

The "tell" for me (that Ilya fell first) was his reaction to Shane's final kiss (after he showered) after their first time at Shane's apartment. Ilya melted into that kiss and I could feel his pain at forcing himself up to leave before he let it go too far.
