Id go as far as to say LEGO is overconsumption, people who buy cards for 'sealed collections' are overconsumers. To overconsume is to own a lot of and then either not get enjoyment out of or to toss to the side. Some figurine collections also fall into this but that really depends on the person.

I’m a collector of figures and it’s easy to over consume them i’ve been guilty of it myself. i’ve preordered figures gotten them realized i hate the quality or its final design and i sell it but most of it i would never sell and i love with my entire being.

my issue with critiques like this, like ”its only overconsumption when it comes to women” its usually in my opinion an attempt to take away from the conversation ( i.e stop commenting on women overconsumption) and rarely adding to the conversation (ie let’s add more nuance, broaden our topics etc). It’s usually put forth in a way that attempts to silence an important conversation. I dont know if this makes sense lol

I consumed a lot of content critical of consumerism and collecting, and I can assure you that getting cards and buying makeup are not the same thing, and it has nothing to do with whether it's a men's or women's activity; the main problem is that makeup expire, that blush you bought 3 years ago because it was trendy and only used once because it was popular can only end up in the trash because it's no longer good, it's expired, and if you use it you could damage your skin, unlike cards that people acquire and, if it's a duplicate, exchange for another one they didn't have (although the amount of money they spend on that is worrying in itself, most collections end up being worth a lot of money)

Also I’ve seen some people call building a book or comic collection overconsumption. It’s not overconsumption if you’re actually reading it and you’re only buying one copy of each book. It is overconsumption if you’re buying multiple copies just for the covers. Especially with comics, some people will buy every single variant cover of the same comic just for the sake of owning them, not actually reading them. It’s killing the industry.

I think trading cards aren't really overconsumption (specifically talking about things like Pokémon or Yu gi oh) since it's a game, a lot of people who collect them actually use them unlike things like makeup or labubus where not all of the product is being used
