Counter-Strike (also known as Counter-Strike or Counter-Strike 1.6) is a multiplayer first-person shooter computer game developed and released for Windows by the American company Valve Corporation. Originally, Counter-Strike was a user-made modification for the game Half-Life, developed by enthusiasts Minh Le and Jess Cliffe in 1999; subsequently, Valve hired both developers and acquired the intellectual property rights to the game from them, releasing a refined version of Counter-Strike as a standalone game in 2000.
