Uyghur women's Atlas silk dresses are hand-woven using an ancient ikat technique — each bolt of fabric dyed before weaving, so the pattern emerges thread by thread. And the Uyghur language — a Turkic tongue written in a flowing Arabic-based script — connects this community to a vast cultural world stretching all the way to Turkey and beyond. Two peoples.
