I started Tahitian dance 16 months ago, and performed on stage for the 3rd time this weekend! I never saw myself as a dancer, even though I did musical theatre in high school, I was more confident with singing and acting. I felt a little nervous to start, but I’m so glad I did because now I’ve found a new love for dance, something to continue improving at, and an amazing Polynesian dance community. 🌺 From start to finish, here’s what it was like preparing the night before and day of, for our Ho’ike (a showcase of culture, dance, tradition, etc.) and performing in an Aparima (traditional Tahitian dance with storytelling through hand and body movements) and an Ō’tea (traditional Tahitian dance characterized by fast rhythmic hip movements to the beat of drums or percussion instruments).
