If you have tight hip flexors - this is a must! This is especially valuable if you are stuck sitting all day or have any issues with your low back. This is called the banded couch stretch and it’s one of the most evergreen stretches you could add into your routine for opening up your hip flexors and quads. By working and actively stretching your hip flexors, not only do you improve your ability to access really good movement patterns like squats, but it can also help bulletproof your low back as it opens up pesky muscles like the psoas deep in the hips. And while the regular version is perfectly good, adding a band really takes it to the next level because of the distraction component it brings to the joint. By adding a band, you are actively applying an additional force to the joint that you otherwise wouldn't be able to achieve with regular stretching. This force can help drive more mobility by pulling and creating more space in the joint. While it will make the stretch more intense, it definitely will give you more bang for your buck as you can see radical improvements to your mobility in the same amount of time. My normal recommendation for stretches like this is to try and hold them for 1–2 minutes and then evaluate how much improvement you've had. So if you’re dealing with stiff hip flexors or your stuck sitting all day, give this a go!
