When a flipper allegedly covers up a leaky foundation and puts shiny paint over a mold-infested house that sat vacant for over a decade without disclosing any of it, it does sorta feel like they should be held accountable, doesn’t it? The more I’ve looked into this, the more complicated it seems. I’ve actually done more than I could fit into this video. I paid another attorney for an hour-long call initially and this attorney thought we had no shot. I let the idea go for a while before I started investigating it again. I’ve now talked to enough lawyers that they disagree with one another. I have spoken to a few who feel strongly that I have a case but only one who was optimistic about it. To be fair, that one is one who would take it on contingency, so they’d have some skin in the game. But either way, the lawsuits are long, stressful, and come with no guarantees. We have a great many other expenses in life right now, so the idea of risking $30k on expert fees has historically been rather scary for us. And then there’s this: I want to get on with my life. Life is precious and short. In some ways, a part of me feels like the flippers shouldn’t get away with this – and winning a case could potentially deter other people from doing something like this. It would also help us a ton. Ultimately, we need better laws, education, and support systems, and I am not sure suing achieves that. I have been trying really hard to connect with my state senators to change laws and education practices to try to prevent this from happening to other people. The only thing I know for sure is that this is just one chapter in our story. We have each other and we will be okay – I remain open to whatever magic comes! ✨
