🤩🌱 INDOOR SEED STARTING FAQ 🧐 Do I need a grow light to start seeds? I personally think a grow light is the single best investment you can make if you're starting seeds indoors. Nearly every window sill does not provide adequate light, resulting in leggy spindly seedlings. But with a grow light, they now will get the perfect amount of light to thrive. 🧐 How many hours of light do they need? I like to think, how much light would these seeds get in a natural environment? And in the peak of summer, that will be around 12 hours of light. So, I use an automatic timer that turns on at 7am every day and off at 7pm every day. 🧐 How often do I water? It depends! Don't stick to a strict schedule but rather take clues from your seedling mix. It will vary for each of us based on the seedling mix that we are using, the temperature of our seed starting area, how much airflow there is and more. So, instead, place the back of your hand on your seedling mix every day. If you feel moisture, you're fine. If you don't feel any moisture, give it 1x turkey baste of water. For myself this is usually about every 3 days at the beginning and more frequently after 3-4 weeks once they're a little larger! 🧐 Why do some people use fans in their seed starting area? I am becoming a big fan of this one! Using an oscillating fan once again simulates nature - a light gust of wind. This not only strengthens the seedlings and prepares them for the garden, but it also dries up the seedling mix more quickly which is beneficial for the plants. I now use one in my seed starting station and if you decide to as well just wait until all your seeds have germinated before turning it on!! What other seed starting questions do you have?! #indoorseedstarting #beginnergardening #gardeningtips
