I live in northern Utah on the mountain. I want to do KBG. But crabgrass and dandelions are such a problem. I also have a lot of rocks in my yard plus a huge hill. I honestly am not sure what steps to take. We got the house around Christmas time last year.

Should overseeding folllow scalping so than seeeds are covered with sand oil dressing. Otherwise weeds are remaining to be exposed on a surface which is not good

There are very few circumstances that require dethatching or power raking. Doing is significantly increases weed seed exposure.
