isle of lewis may be remote now. but when the stones were erected people travelled distances by sea, not over land. so islands were actually less remote and easier to access than some inland areas. so potentially it was busier than we now imagine.

we have them at cava cairns in Inverness a pictish burial ground I often visit and wonder what do they how did they transport them makes you feel humb

I went to visit my ancestral homeland in Barra. Then, drove up to Lewes. The entire area has ancient islands in lakes that had to have been dwellings and standing stones. These islands have been inhabited since long before historic records and long past the stories handed down.
