Malcolm X lived in East Elmhurst and the street was renamed in his name. MLK was a student pastor at the First Baptist Church in the 1950s. So much history!

This is an east Elmhurst episode but all these places were in Corona which is not East Elmhurst. Wish you would have just named it Corona episode because we’re often forgotten or ignored. Usually just jump from JH or Elmhurst to flushing.

Have you visited Southeast Queens? Especially the historically African American neighborhood, Addisleigh Park in St. Albans? It became known for wealthy and middle class African American families, especially during the 1930s–1950s and was home to legends like Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Jackie Robinson, Lena Horne, and many many others. I would check out Southeast Queens if you haven’t already. Such beautiful neighborhoods, add in Laurelton, Rosedale, Springfield Gardens. Beautiful, beautiful neighborhoods filled to the brim with lovely Black people 🫶🏾

my neighborhood...dont forget Malcolmx home on 97st and 23rd ave. 127 park is a legendary park. Lot of real ones came through there.

I’ve been to the Louis Armstrong museum and house tour and it is amazing! A must! I had tears in my eyes the whole time
