If God already knows all our needs, why do we still need to pray? Maybe you have also thought about this question: “If God already knows everything, does it really make a difference whether I say it or not?” Actually, prayer is not about telling God something He does not know. Prayer is about returning to God, learning to look to Him, depend on Him, and follow His guidance. First, prayer brings us close to God. It is like a child coming home and telling his father what happened that day. The father may already know, but he still wants to listen. Because God cares not only about your problems. He cares about you. Second, prayer is giving your burdens to God. The Bible says: “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:7, KJV Prayer may not change the situation immediately, but it reminds you that you do not have to carry everything alone. Third, prayer keeps your heart from being carried away by the world. The longer a person goes without prayer, the more easily their heart is filled with anxiety, desires, and the voices of the world. But when a person prays often, their heart returns to God and becomes more able to understand His will. Fourth, God truly hears prayer. The Bible says: “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.” 1 John 5:14, KJV You do not need beautiful words. Just come before God sincerely. Even one simple prayer is enough: “Lord, I do not know what to do. Please lead me.” God hears. Fifth, God answers in His time. The Lord Jesus said: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” Luke 11:9, KJV Sometimes God opens the way quickly. Sometimes He first gives you strength. Sometimes He does not answer in the way you expected, because He is leading you on a better path. So why do we pray? Because prayer is the way we look to God and depend on God. Without prayer, our relationship with God slowly becomes distant. True faith is not remembering God only when we need help. It is coming before Him every day. If you want to learn how to pray, how to understand God’s will, and how to truly follow God in daily life, you are welcome to join our free online Bible study group.
