We live in a house from the 1920s and it’s amazing how there’s no place for a tv. We put ours in the basement it’s better for the decor but also for our mental health. TV becomes more deliberate and the living room is for reading and conversation.

I think we're ignoring 2 perfectly reasonable solutions here- 36 inch legs on your couch to raise people to the proper viewing height or flipping the position and building the fireplace right by the ceiling. Putting the fireplace up higher will really increase the warmth it creates

The fireplace sold us on our 1900 Chicago greystone so we just plopped a projector screen in the basement and let the rest of the house be tv free

What’s your thought on this: Ideally I think you need separate rooms which serve separate purposes. A small room, nook, whatever for a TV. You don’t need a lot of sq ft. Can be a semi-private adjacent space. Then another space dedicated to the fireplace built for communal sitting and conversation. You don’t even need a dedicated room or space for the fireplace. Could integrate in a similar way FLW did with Toy Hill.

I agree! I hate the tv above the fireplace, it’s always too high! We have the tv on the wall adjacent to the fireplace.

Honestly, I feel fire places are over rated and rarely used. We specifically picked a house that doesn’t have one so we have a full wall where we can have our TV at the proper viewing angle and height. Hate TVs about the fire place, I’d rather get rid of the fire place at that point. Thanks for the video!

Whoever made up the TV wall height number must have never leaned back on a couch😂 I would hate my tv that low to the floor. The Samsung frame above a fireplace is the best answer

I’m a state licensed low voltage contractor in FL and CA and will always try to steer my clients away from putting a TV above a fireplace. If it must go there, we try and put it on a motorized mount that allows it to be lowered (with the fireplace not lit) and also try and use an “Art TV” so that it portrays framed art when it’s up and off.

On an energetic level, I feel like the TV is a black hole/energetic vortex that sucks the life from a room. My TV is in the office. I will never have another TV in a living area.

I finally got my husband to move ours from over the fireplace to eye level on a different wall and shifted the couch to suit, while still leaving it open to the fireplace. Best decorating choice I’ve ever made! It no longer strains the neck to watch tv and we don’t have to hold the remote at an uncomfortable angle to hit the sensor- the family’s time spent in the lv room immediately skyrocketed!

i am stuck with a TV over the fireplace because the only other wall is back to back shuttered windows 😭 i legitimately hate this house so it’s just one thing in a long list 🤷♀️

We switched out the living room and the dining room. So our dining table is set up where the fireplace is and the formal dining room became the TV/media room. I think our original living room was designed to not have any tvs in it with how awkward the fireplace is placed.

Omg this is exactly what I’m dealing with. I’m removing the tv from the fireplace room. Our second living room I’m trying to make hotel lounge vibes so I can have enough seating (there’s 8 of us 😅). Every con you said about the tv over the fireplace is so spot on.

4K is always been a scam If you truly care about image quality you look for the color depth and gamma rating. same thing goes for sound it's about the total harmonic distortion not about how many watts it can produce
