I always wonder if the reason itachi calls sasuke foolish so often is because sasuke keeps doing the one thing itachi himself was never emotionally capable of doing, which is choosing identity over ideology. and i think a very central part of itachi loves him more than everything precisely because sasuke cannot stop doing that.
