Actually not true let’s not lie to people. People will absolutely get mad at you for stating something bothered you and they may cut you off. It’s a risk you should be willing to take when you decide to speak up but I believe you should still do it anyway

People pleasing is self abandonment. It’s essentially saying I don’t feel comfortable honoring my needs so in order to try to make myself feel better. I’m gonna focus on taking care of yours. Learned a behavior in childhood and as adults, we have to unlearn that and create a new identity. Otherwise, we just re-create our childhood experience over and over and over until we finally learn our lessons.

I think another reason it could be seen as selfish is, the reason you want to please people is so they like you. And in the end you are getting the thing you want which is to be liked.
