I’m so glad I found The Reflection You Never Faced by Emma Vale. It’s one of those rare books that genuinely shifts your mindset

This is why I cannot get rid of the feeling that I need to leave immediately. I love London with all my heart, but I don’t want to be strong anymore. The loneliness of the city is just insufferable. And sometimes you have friends and plans on the weekends, but why it feels like we are never fully connected? It is so weird. I feel i cannot count on anyone, even though i have nice people around me

Such a cute full circle moment because I was right there on the grass on my own while you were there and now I’m watching this

I've slowly realised ..no one cares ..I've noticed people alone and that thought last seconds in my mind, actually it gives me courage to do just the same .

The fact that so many people feel the same, or someone people have similar experiences and scenarios to me, is a shocker to me, I always though I was the only one, but this is a shared experience.

this is honestly what i love about living in london, it’s so freeing and (as an introvert) perfectly lonely. i love the freedom of being able to leave the house and see no one i know

It feels isolating, but whenever I see someone on their own I don’t think it’s weird at all, no one is judging and that’s beautiful 💕

For me the no-one cares is part of the problem. I travel a lot, end up in so many amazing places, but always alone and pretty much always the only one alone. It's so awkward approaching groups of people and this era of phone scrolling adds to the awkwardness. I love my independence but yes I do feel I'm missing out. I don't drink, smoke or vape either which in a social context doesn't help.

It’s that feeling of wanting to experience those things but are you really experiencing it when you’re on your own and not with people? Still though you should always make the most of your time and go experience the things you want to do!

as a born + raised londoner, people can be really welcoming if you just start talking to/engaging with them. it can feel scary but ive had countless random interactions with strangers that have had lovely endings/new friendships. twice now i’ve been alone and then randomly ended up on a night out with strangers! it just starts with a smile, compliment, question or even a small offering! an old lady literally walked up to me at a bus stop today to show me a pile of leaves and petals on the floor that looked pretty and we ended up having the best conversation that ended with us bellying laughing and talking about how important it is to just engage with other humans. i know you’re not asking for advice but i always see people saying that london is lonely/antisocial but i’ve never agreed with it! while its good practice to be okay with your own company, if you are feeling lonely its a rewarding thing to try 💓✨

I remember years ago sitting by the lions in Trafalgar Square on my own on a Saturday night. Spoke to so many people. Still remember it.
