As a leader of the Singo clan, he unified various groups—including the Vhangona, Vhalembethu, and Vhatavhatsindi—into a single Venda nation, establishing his capital at Dzata I on Mount Lwandali. Dimbanyika meaning 'he who refused to be the ruler of the land', the first king of the Vhavenda people south of the Limpopo River, was buried in a sacred cave on Mount Lwandali (also known as Tshiendeulu) in the Nzhelele area, Limpopo. According to oral tradition, Dimbanyika went out hunting and did not return. He was later found inside a cave, which was sealed by huge rocks, and he told his people the cave would be his resting place.The sacred grave is, according to tradition, tended to by the Netshiendeulu family.
